Position Summary

Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the PSW is a member of the health care team, accountable for the day to day provision of quality patient and family centered care in a manner consistent with QHC’s Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Direction. Under the direction of the RN/RPN or other regulated health professional, the Personal Support Worker performs assigned functions as an unregulated care provider, that support the health care team in assisting patients in activities of daily living, and supports the effective operation of patient care areas.

Required

• Personal Support Worker Certificate received from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology Program or Accredited PSW Certificate within the past two years or, graduate of same program and have at least one year of full time equivalent work experience within the past three years.
• Current CPR or BCLS certification
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) available to review)

Duties

• Performs or assists patients with activities of daily living including basic hygiene as assigned (i.e. bathing, toileting, dressing, oral care, personal grooming etc.).
• Adheres to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Hospital policies.
• Effectively communicates to RN/RPN in a timely, objective manner without interpretation the following, but not limited to: Patient information specific to assigned activities, observed changes in patients’ condition, patient findings and/or unusual occurrences
• Document in the Health Record as appropriate
• Assists in meeting patients’ psychosocial needs, i.e. engaging patients in conversation, taking patients for walks, assisting with unit programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

North Hastings Hospital (NHH) is located in the small, picturesque town of Bancroft. It sits on the edge of Algonquin Park, one of the largest provincial parks in Ontario, featuring numerous lakes, rivers and a range of wildlife. Situated in a beautiful part of Ontario's 'cottage country', Bancroft boasts a relaxing lifestyle, a close-knit community, and provides opportunity to explore nature, snowmobile on incredible trails, and participate in fishing and water sports on various lakes.North Hastings Hospital is the smallest and most rural of Quinte Health's four hospitals, and works closely with the Bancroft Family Health Team. It is a six-bed primary care hospital that operates a busy, 24/7 emergency department (including emergency obstetrics). The inpatient beds are available for medical and palliative care services. North Hastings Hospital also provides diagnostic services, physiotherapy, outreach clinics and telemedicine services. NHH works closely with the other three Quinte Health hospitals, as well as regional health centres, to serve the community together.The North Hastings Hospital team is truly like one big family. They not only work together, but often spend time together within the community. They are incredibly dedicated and resourceful, ensuring that the people who seek care at NHH have positive outcomes and experiences.
