Position Summary

Join the dynamic team at Belleville General Hospital (BGH) Emergency Department, where you'll have the chance to make a real impact in patient care. Our ED caters to patients of all ages with diverse medical concerns, featuring 31 rooms. On average our ED sees 115 patients a day. The BGH ED is the cosult centre for the 3 other ED sites, so you could see patients transfered from other Quinte Health sites. Working in this fast-paced environment will expose you to a broad spectrum of illnesses, providing invaluable learning opportunities.

As an ED nurse, you'll not only enhance your clinical skills but also open doors to advancement in critical care nursing, triage, and leadership positions. Thriving in this role requires strong assessment and technical abilities, coupled with effective teamwork and communication. Managing time efficiently is paramount.

At BGH ED, you'll be part of a supportive and robust team, made up of RN’s, RPN’s, Physicians, Physician Assistants as well as a multidisciplinary team of Physio, OT and Allied Health, benefitting from a wealth of resources that facilitate a smooth transition into emergency nursing. We provide an extensive orientation program including classroom & mentoring one-on-one with a preceptor. Required

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario,
• Completion of Coronary Care 1 or equivalent (ex. QHC Cardio Concepts) or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Current CPR or Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate,
• Current ACLS or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire,
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload (Physical Demands Analysis available to review).

Duties

• Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills – to assume in-charge responsibility to function independently,
• Provision of care for patients within an inter-professional environment, including assessment, treatment, teaching and education,
• Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement necessary for care of acute medical patients,
• Teaching and coaching to patients and families,
• Maintains nursing records in accordance with College of Nurses Standards,
• Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and best practices within the nursing profession,
• Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annul training and education as indicated,
• Participates in unit/dept. and hospital quality improvement initiatives,
• Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures,
• Adapts and adheres to the values of QHC while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience, and
• Other duties as assigned.
