Required

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current CPR or BCLS certificate.
• Completed Post Graduate Operating Room Certificate.
• Critical Care course completed or in progress with completion no later than 9 months from verbal acceptance as the successful candidate.
• Minimum of 2 years operating room experience in the last 5 years.
• Minimum of 2 years recent experience as an RN supporting post anaesthesia or critical care patients within the past 5 years.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
• Must have demonstrated ability to work independently and have strong organizational skills.
• Must have satisfactory work performance and attendance in present position.
• Medical Surveillance is required for personnel routinely working with mechanical equipment and the class of lasers used in the OR. A hearing test and eye exam must be arranged.
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis PDA available to review).

Duties

• Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and manages follow up care in the perioperative environment.
• Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, critical care skills and judgement in assessing health needs and in planning, administering and evaluating patient care for paediatric, adolescent and adult clients.
• Provides health education and procedural teaching for clients and their families.
• Responsible for supervision and guidance of other members of the health care team who contribute to the provision of patient care.
• Maintains nursing records and meets documentation requirements in a computerized environment.
• Participates in CI, continuing education and risk management programs to ensure a high level of patient care.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Required Frequently – forward shoulder movements, gripping/grasping, pinching, neck, elbow, shoulder, wrist and back normal range of motion.
• Required Occasionally – fine finger movements, shoulder movements (up/down).
• Required Rarely – foot action.
