Women and Children RN’s are an integral part of the Maternal Child team providing care to paediatric patients, Level 2a Special Care Nursery (SCN) infants, antepartum and postpartum women and their newborns. Women & Children’s RN’s provide family centered care while working on a team with physicians, midwives and other professionals. Assignments include SCN, Paediatrics, Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) as well as initial stabilization of newborns following both vaginal and cesarean births. We offer a robust orientation program with a mentor assignment tailored to individual experience levels.
• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.• Current certification in BCLS or CPR, or proof of enrolment in a recertification course. You will be asked to provide a copy of your valid certificate at the time of hire/transfer.• Minimum 6 months continuous clinical work experience (within the last 2 years), excluding orientation periods, of neonatal, paediatric and/or perinatal nursing.• Current Neonatal Resuscitation.• Educational preparation and experience in lactation support or obtain within 3 months.• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload (PDA available to review).
• Utilizes the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating family-centered maternal-child managed care requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement.• Responsible for the co-ordination of care within the framework of Interprofessional Patient Care Teams.• Contributes to multidisciplinary documentation of care and outcomes.• Participates in CE programs to ensure a high level of patient care and efficiencies in the delivery of care.• Other duties as assigned including scrub, circulating and recovery of the surgical maternity patient.
