Required

• Must be a graduate of a recognized Food Service & Nutrition Management Program or a bachelor’s degree of applied science in nutrition.
• Must be registered and a member in good standing, with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or provide a copy of the applicants Bachelor’s Degree of applied science in nutrition.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and management.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of therapeutic diets.
• Familiar with institutional food preparation and production.
• Knowledge/experience of different styles of meal service and equipment.
• Familiarity of food service operations and software programs through work experience or student placement.
• Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment, and
• Recent experience in an acute care / long-term care setting.

For internal candidates, disciplinary and attendance records will be considered.

Duties

• Maintains and updates patient’s profiles utilizing the Dietary software.
• Screens/reviews the patient’s electronic charts to obtain pertinent information in partnership with Clinical Dietitians.
• May be asked to make regular visits to the patient’s bedside, to gain required information and or to gather information on patient and or family concern with meals received.
• Documents according to established procedures. i.e. dietary software program / hospital software program, (electronic charting).
• Works as a team member with the Diet Office staff to ensure the patients receive meals and nourishments according to established nutritional guidelines. Acts as a resource person to the Diet Office Representative when modifying complicated or unusual diet patterns.
• Participates in food service quality control program and conducts regular meal rounds to ensure that the patients are satisfied with meals and nourishments.
• Acts as a resource person for Food Service personnel. Acts as a liaison between Clinical and Food Service areas.
• Works closely with Food Service staff to ensure patients are receiving correct meals.
• Promotes and maintains client interactions and effective on-going communication with all levels of staff.
• Communicates effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maintains workload statistics and electronic documentation as required.
• Assist/inform and instruction to front line staff in, Food Safety Guidelines as set by the Ministry of Health and Public Health Offices, and ensure they are followed and adhered to by the front-line staff.
• Attends all department/hospital in-service orientation and other meetings as required.
• Assist in promotions/displays and programs, as requested by management.
• Support Food Service sanitation and safety standards and reports all injuries and hazardous conditions, and
• Other duties as assigned.
