Position Summary

Hours: 8 hour days & evenings, Monday – Sunday, although subject to change with notice based on the needs of the organization.

This position is also open to new and future graduates, offering a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of seasoned and registered Sonographers. Future graduates will be compensated at a Non-Registered Technologist rate (TBD) until registration is completed.

Required

• Member in good standing of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists
of Ontario (CMRITO) or a future graduate actively pursuing registration with the CMRITO.
• Graduate of an accredited program of Medical Imaging – Diagnostic Medical Sonography (unless a future graduate or student).
• Current registration with Sonography Canada, or eligibility upon graduation.
• Possess valid liability insurance as defined by the CMRITO, or eligible to obtain liability insurance upon registration.
• Initiative, organizational, and decision-making skills are essential
• Strong computer skills
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal courteously and
effectively with physicians, patients, and other members of the healthcare team
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload
• Must be available to work all shifts including weekends, stat holidays and on call

Duties

• Performs all general and special ultrasound procedures such as MSK and vascular imaging
according to the Standards of Practice
• Responsible for the daily upkeep of equipment
• Responsible to ensure adequate level of products and supplies to support daily operations
• Archives/retrieves data to/from PACS
• Reports equipment deficiencies to the Charge Technologist/Manager
• Instructs students during clinical rotation when required and participates in evaluating
student’s progress
• Reports to the radiologist, any unusual or inconsistent findings arising during scanning
procedures
• Assists in the orientation and training of new technologists
• Demonstrates willingness to provide the highest quality service appropriate to the position
based on the concept and philosophy of continuous and quality improvement
• Demonstrates courteous behavior through polite and respectful communication with all
co-workers and patients
• Participates in continuing education in order to increase his/her own professional growth
and development
• Takes on call rotation with other sonographers as scheduled
• Maintains a general working knowledge of the provision of ultrasound services, and also
of the Diagnostic Imaging Department - policies and procedures
• Assists clerical staff with booking urgent ultrasound examinations
• Performs other duties as assigned from time to time
